we were back in Germany!! back in the land of saying “choos” in a fun sing songey way!! the train there was fun - more of a cabin type. 6 seats, kinda like harry potter without the middle table. we got to Berlin main station, took the subway (which impressed me a lot in its timeliness, signage, and ease), and got to our Airbnb which was cute!! very modern. we made a very scrumptious of noodles, veggies and just veggie broth cubes that we had left over. Ian made this yummy shrimp to add. y’all it was so tasty. i wasn’t a believer at first but it did come together.
the next few days to be honest we took it very easy. we were mostly here for Pride (which was going to be on Saturday) and overall we felt very tired from not sure what but probably travelling around a lot. it was kinda weird. for me my mental health didn’t feel like it was doing too well, unfortunately - i felt extremely unmotivated to do anything and felt like i didn’t want to do anything except sleep. was a hard couple days but we did go on walks to see our area and check out downtown. we ate some very tasty Asian food (shoutout to your Sennah for the recs) and took it pretty slow.
then it was pride day!!! was super excited!!! we dressed up in fun colourful outfits and hit the town. in hindsight pretty ridiculous, but we weren’t sure how easy it was to find the parade/festivities. our general plan was to get there around 2 and just go downtown. well we left the station and BOOM parade right there. the streets were packed!! people dancing!! dressed so fun!! large, loud trucks!! just the best time. there was a section of the parade that seemed to be Canadian!! they had provincial and canadian themed flags so that was sweet :) also someone spontaneously slapped a heart shaped pride sticker on me!!
now the thing about Germany, is you are allowed to have one drink out in public. so everyone was going for it. drinking straight from wine and champagne bottles. we also participated and had a great time. but unlike Toronto, there weren’t really merchant or brand booths - it was all alcohol booths, people selling beers and shots.
one odd thing that happened was someone threw an egg down into the street near us which … definitely was targeted. very odd.
also, Berlin is a huggge city!!! we walked all around the city following the parade, dancing in crowds, and through the fun parks. it was a great way to see the sights. the streets were PACKED!!! we took one break to lie and eat in a park and throw the frisbee. then back to the party!!!!
we found this very festive part with food vendors of this huge street, stages with music and parks on either side. this very quickly became the bathroom for everyone!! how fun. easy access.
this was also where we danced the night away!! the music was incredible (ABBA, Cher, 00s hits, 90s hits) and we found this one spot in the street where we set up shop and danced in our zone. we made friends who joined us in an impromptu yoga session in the street, and other who joined us to dance saying they enjoyed our vibes!!! we stayed here for a few hours in the night and got some ice cream!!
we called it a night around 11 and scootered to the station we started at and mosied on home. we tried to get kebab on the way home but everyone was out of chicken 😟
overall loved experiencing Pride in another city!! it was a great time, good people, fun music, a great party. not as much nudity as Toronto’s pride surprisingly. our final count: 5 full naked penis individuals and 4 shirtless boobed peoples.
